The most expected Mollywood flicks of the year; Kammatti Paadam is on its way. The movie, which has been making headlines ever since it was announced, has unveiled a second poster on the other day. Kammatti Paadam features Dulquer Salman and Shaun Romy in the lead and unfolds in the backdrop of Kochi in the 80s. The gangster drama joins together the National Award Winning director Rajiv Ravi and Dulquer Salman for the first time.

Kammatti Padam also features Vinay Fortt, Vinayakan, Shine Tom Chacko, Sunny Wayne, and Soubin Thahir in supporting roles. Rajeev keeps his lips shut except revealing that Mumbai is elemental in his movie. The cinematographer turned director’s foray into the cityscapes of Mumbai after exploring Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in his earlier flicks Annayum Rasulum and Njan Steve Lopez. “It will be my film,” hinted Rajiv Ravi about the commercial aspect of his film. He said his third directorial venture would have a commercial flavor.

According to reports, Dulquer shed around 15 kg to fit for the role. With its first look poster and Dulquer’s mass appearance, Kammatti Paadam emerged as the most expected flicks of the year. “I’m dying to share so many things about the film and my character with you but I’m controlling myself! Just so you all enjoy the final product better,” wrote Dulquer earlier on his Facebook wall.

DQ enjoys a huge fan following among the youth in Kerala and Rajiv Ravi has created a niche with his experimental treatment of contemporary themes in his first two directorial ventures, Annayum Rasulum and Njan Steve Lopez. So, when these two young Turks of Mollywood rub shoulders for a cosmopolitan flick, expectations are sky high.

Kammatti Paadam has two new faces, Shaun Romy and Amalda Liz in the female leads. The movie also paves the way for Bollywood actress Rasika Dugal’s debut in Malayalam. The actress who recently caught the headlines through her off-beat movie, Qissa with Irrfan Khan, plays a Mumbaikar in the movie.The movie is written by actor turned writer P Balachandran and produced by Prem Menon under the banner Global United Media. Kammatti Paadam will hit the screens in May.

Action Hero Biju girl, Anu Immanuel will romance Dulquer Salman in Amal Neerad’s next directorial venture. The untitled flick will start rolling from April 6 with Errattupettah, Kottayam as its mail location. There will be an overseas schedule for the movie, which will be shot at US. Dulquer will join the camp after wrapping up Rajiv Ravi’s Kammatti Paadam. The actor has shed a lot of weight for Kammatti Paadam and Amal Neerad and crew are waiting for the actor to regain his shape.

Anu Immanuel has a high time in her career, as the leading lady in Inspector Biju exposed her to more offers from Kollywood and Tollywood. The untitled Amal Neerad flick will be her second movie in Mollywood. Even though the makers suggest that the movie will be a back-to-back entertainer, they are also keeping their mouth shut about other details of the movie.

“Kullande Bharya with Dulquer took me out of my comfort zone. This movie too has got me excited because it’s something that I have never attempted before,” said Amal Neerad in a conversation. “Since Bachelor Party, I have taken up movies that are different —be it Kullande Bharya or Iyobinte Pusthakam. I want to continue that trend with this movie too,” he added. Amal Neerad and Dulquer Salman worked together earlier in Amal Neerad production venture 5 Sundarikal, in which Dulquer played the central character in the segment, Kullande Bharya.

Amal Neerad is collaborating with scribe Shebin Francis and composer Gopi Sunder in for the movie. “We are good friends and our camaraderie reflects in our work as well,” says Amal about his fifth consecutive collaboration with Gopi Sunder. Amal’s longtime associate Renu cranks the camera and the movie is produced under the banner Amal Neerad Productions.

Amal Neerad, after graduating from Sathyajith Rai Film Institute, Kolkata, began his film career as a cinematographer in Bollywood and later went on to producing and directing movies. Before turning into an independent filmmaker with Big B, Amal Neerad worked as a cinematographer with Ram Gopal Varma’s production company, where he did the cinematography for James, Darna Zaroori Hai and Shiva.

His directorial debut Big B enjoys a cult status among the young Mollywood followers. The movie introduced a never seen before graphical story telling style using unconventional camera angles and movements. Iyobinte Pusthakam was his last directorial offering, which couldn’t claim the top spot at the box office despite much hype and an ambitious star cast.

Dulquer Salman and Sai Pallavi are out there in the social media platforms, creating a buzz with the video song from their upcoming Mollywood flick Kali. The song, Vaarthinkalee features hues of togetherness between husband and wife with some warm compositions. Dulquer has been seen as a young man, who is struggling with his anger and Sai appears as a loving and caring wife, who helps him to fight his outbursts. The couple radiates mutual passion and affection and the song escalates the already high expectations of the movie.

The melodious number is one of the tracks featured on the official jukebox, which was out earlier. The song is composed by Gopi Sunder and written by Harinarayanan. Divya S Menon lends a feather touch of romance to the song with her voice. The video has become an instant hit in the social media platforms. The recently released trailer has also broken records in views and Dulquer’s furious and hot tempered avatar was trending all over.

The trailer presents Dulquer as Sidharth, a young man on the verge of losing his temper. The character looks like the exact opposite of Dulquer’s character in Charlie. A seemingly fed up Sai Pallavi says “Mukkinte thumbathu aanu deshyam” about his outbursts in the trailer. There are some warm and intimate moments between the two lead actors in the trailer. Actor Soubin Shamir’s character also gets a short, but a proper introduction.

Kali, which features Dulquer and Sai Pallavi as a married couple, is written by Rajesh Gopinath and directed by Samir Thahir. Dulquer plays Sidharth, a customer relations officer in a new-generation bank and Sai Pallavi appears as his wife Anjali. According to a source close to the director, the movie revolves around the couple who is college buddies and later enters wedlock. “Dulquer and Sai’s characters are college buddies who later get married. Their friendship and love drive the movie,” revealed scribe Rajesh Gopinadhan in a previous conversation.

“Sidharth’s character is of a peculiar nature, and does not befriend people easily. His wife remains his only friend and that makes the relationship special,” he added. The movie, which is said to be a romantic action thriller, is produced by Aashiq Usman, Shyju Khalid, and Sameer Thahir under the banner Hand Made Films. Main locations of Kali were Kochi, Wagamon and Masinagudi.

Girish Gangadharan, who is known for the mind-blowing cinematography of Neelakasam Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, cranks the camera for Sameer Thahir. The movie also features Chemban Vinod, Vinayakan, VK Prakash, and Soubin Shahir in important roles. Kali will hit the screens on March 26.
