James and Alice will come on May 5th, confirmed

James and Alice will visit the Kerala box office on May 5th. The makers have confirmed and locked the date after a series of confusing reports and postponements. Prithviraj and Vedhika are already trending in the social media platforms with their trendy getups and sizzling on screen chemistry in the recently released trailer and “Mazhaye Mazhaye” video song. The movie was lined for an April 29 release and then pushed towards May due to some unexpected delay in the technical department.

James and Alice, which features Prithviraj and Kollywood diva Vedhika in the title roles, is the directorial debut of award winning cinematographer Sujith Vasudev. The movie chronicles eight eventful years in the life of the couple James and Alice, played by Prithviraj and Vedhika. Though Prithviraj and Vedicka have earlier worked together in Vasanthabalan’s Tamil film Kaaviya Thalaivan, they were not cast as pairs. James and Alice will showcase their on-screen romance for the first time.

Earlier, Vedhika was approached to play the female lead opposite Prithviraj in Amar Akbar Anthony. But her other language schedule was too tight to accept the offer. She stepped out of the offer, which in turn went to Namitha Pramod. Vedhika portrays a young woman, who married a bohemian artist against the will of her parents and the consequent events.

Prithviraj appears in different get ups in the movie. “The movie shows two different phases of Prithviraj’s character – before and after marriage. In the initial half, he lives a jovial, carefree life while the latter has him leading a responsible, practical life,” reveals director Sujith.

“The younger days have him playing an artist with international sensibilities. But he soon realizes paintings won’t be enough to sustain a livelihood. So, he turns to advertising and that’s shown in the second half of the movie,” he adds. The younger James sports a ponytail and colorful linen kurtas while the older one will appear with a neatly cropped hairstyle and a short-boxed beard.

Director Sujith Vasudev, who is a popular cinematographer in Mollywood, had skyrocketed to instant fame with his outstanding work in the blockbuster Drishyam and its Tamil version, Papanasam. Both the films were directed by Jeethu Joseph. Prithviraj and Sujith Vasudev share a successful partnership as an actor and cinematographer. They worked together in films like City Of God, Memories, and 7th Day, all went on to become hits. They recent tie ups, Amar Akbar Anthony and Anarkkali were hailed for their exotic cinematography.

James and Alice also have Sai Kumar, Nedumudi Venu, Manju Pillai and Sijoy Varghese in significant roles. Writer turned filmmaker Dr. S Janardhanan pens the screenplay for James and Alice, whose story is writer by director Sujith. The movie is produced by Dr. S Sajikumar and Krishnan Sethukumar, under the banner Dharmik Films.

Poor man’s boat race! Leela’s second teaser is out

Poor man’s boat race! Leela’s second teaser is out

Ranjith and crew turn up with the second teaser of the upcoming flick Leela starring Biju Menon in the lead role. The 33 second teaser also features Kuttiyappan, the central character played by Biju Menon, who calls an older lady. Her reply hints that Kuttiyappan is afraid of the night and needs a company to sleep in his room. The teaser rolled up with a funny and ridiculing statement against those, who imposed an unofficial ban on the movie, saying “Pavappettavante Vallam Kaliyanu, Mukkaruthu means don’t drown this poor man’s boat race.”

The 40 second first teaser also ended with a naughty note, “Annanmaru Kaninnjal Thamasiyathe Varum,” which mocks the unofficial ban on the movie imposed by Producers Association. Leela, which features Biju Menon in the lead role, was all set to hit theaters, but the producers association has imposed a silent ban on the movie on the grounds that Ranjith was not cooperating with the organization.

Leela, being a talk of the Mollywood town for such a long time, is an adaptation of writer Unni R’s popular short story with the same name. The movie also marks Ranjith’s foray into another person’s writing material after the writer-director adapted TP Rajeevan’s Paleri Manikyam for the screen. And, for the first time in his career, Ranjith will shoulder the director post only as the script and dialogues are penned by Unni R.

The movie revolves around a complex and erotic relationship between Kuttiyappan, a middle aged mahout, and a young orphan girl Leela. The title role will be a real challenge and a milestone in the career of Parvathy as it demands a bold attitude as the role involves some erotic element attached to it. Kuttiyappan is a physically and mentally demanding character and capable of pulling out the best out of an actor. The movie was in the cards for a long time with Mohanlal, Mammootty, and Sankar Ramakrishnan’s names were associated with the project. But, none of them took off and Ranjith moved on to one movie after another.

Leela messed up with the strike of FEFKA and the makers accuse that the movie is facing an unofficial ban. The issue started when Cinema technician’s association FEFKA demanded a hike of 30 percent for their technical staff. But, the Producers’ Association denied the demand and called for a strike. Ranjith started Leela in Kozhikode and Rajiv Ravi started his untitled Dulquer Salman flick in Kochi, despite the call for strike. Rajiv Ravi was compelled to stop the shooting after so much pressure from the organization. But, Ranjith was adamant in his decision and went ahead with the schedule. As a consequence, Ranjith was expelled because he disobeyed the association’s call for the strike.

Apart from Biju Menon, Leela also features Vijayaraghavan, Indrans, Jagadish, Parvathy Nambiar, and a number of theater actors in important roles. The movie is produced by Ranjith’s Capitol Theater and the camera is cranked by Prashanth Ravindran. Biji Bal composes the music and Manoj Kannoth is the editor.
