Mohanlal’s Benz Vasu will start driving soon

Actor Mohanlal is all set to join hands with the young brigade of Mollywood directors. The actor will play the title role, Benz Vasu in the movie directed by Oru Vadakkan Selfie fame G Prajith. Earlier, there were reports suggesting Mohanlal’s collaboration with Vellimoonga director Jibu Jacob were taking rounds in social media. This is his second collaboration with a young director in Mollywood.

According to various reports, Benz Vasu will feature Mohanlal as a village taxi driver. The movie is centered on his beloved Ambassador taxi, which he caresses as a Benz and hence the name. But, as the village undergoes modernization, his old Ambi becomes obsolete and Vasu struggles to keep his slippery grounds. How he manages to survive with his family of wife and kid is the rest of the story.

G Prajith was shot to overnight popularity with the success of his directorial debut, Oru Vadakkan Selfie, which was the first blockbuster of 2015. He collaborated with Nivin Pauly and Vineeth Sreenivasan to bring life to a story of a film buff. The movie fared well at the box office and hailed for racy and witty script written by Vineeth Sreenivasan, hilarious performances of Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese and Neeraj Madhav and D Prajith’s fresh treatment.

According to latest reports, M Ranjith will bankroll the movie under his banner Rajaputhra Visual Media. The makers are yet to announce the supporting cast and the leading lady.

Mohanlal’s curtain raiser of 2016 will be Vyshakh ’a magnum opus action thriller Puli Murugan. Valayar Paramasivam returns with a bang

Actor Dileep’s biggest mass avatar till date, Valayar Paramasivam of the movie Runway, returns for a second innings. The actor has announced the news through his social media platform and the movie is expected to start rolling in this year. Dileep also confirmed that there will be a sequel for his romcom CID Moosa soon.

Runway, which was directed by Joshiy, is considered as Dileep’s first step in to the full-fledged action roles. Joshiy reinvented him through the fire branded character of Valayar Paramasivam, who led a dual face existence as a mafia don and a simpleton. Indrajith, Murali, Kavya Madhavan, and Harishree Ashokan played important roles in Runway. The movie was written by Udhayakrishna Siby K Thomas duo and was declared as a super hit.

The makers have adopted the same character Valayar Paramasivam for the sequel. According to sources Joshiy and Udhayakrishna-Siby K Thomas will reprise their respective roles in the sequel. The rest of the cast and crew will be announced shortly. Dileep has a promising year ahead with some ambitious projects in hand and Valayar Paramasivam is the trump card among them.

The actor has tasted success again with his last flick King Liar. The Siddhique Lal movie has garnered positive reviews and is ringing the cash registers in the box office. This is his second box office triumph after the record breaking Two Countries. Dileep will join the Joshiy camp soon after he wrapped up the Sunderdas flick Welcome to Central Jail.

The movie, which is written by Benny P Nayarambalam and directed by Sundardas, is touted as a family entertainer. Like the title indicates, Welcome to Central Jail unfolds through the lives of a group of prisoners.

Pujappura Central Prison is the major location of the movie and some scenes will be caned in the backdrop of Kochi. The movie also brings together Dileep and Vedhika after the movie Sringaravelan. Vedhika, who looks forward for a strong comeback to Mollywood through the Prithviraj starrer James and Alice, plays Dileep’s love interest in Welcome to Central Jail.

Dileep teams up with his Sallapam director after a gap of 14 years. Their last Mollywood outing together was the 2002 movie Kuberan, which was a hit. Sundardas’s last flick Rebecca Uthuppu Kizhakkemala couldn’t ring money at the box office. His previous flicks like Pouran and Aakasham also failed to make an impression.

Soubin Thahir in director’s chair

Actor Soubin Thahir will soon occupy the director’s chair. The actor is all set to roll his maiden directorial venture, which is bankrolled by producer-director Anwar Rasheed. The movie has given the title Parava and will hit screens as a Christmas release. The full cast and crew of Parava will be announced shortly. Soubin has created a unique space and fans within a few numbers of characters. He was noted for his extraordinary timing and hilarious body language.

“I always wanted to be a filmmaker. I have been in the industry for the past 14 years since director Sidhique’s Chronic Bachelor. I have assisted several master directors and with each project, learnt the intricacies of filmmaking. I know people recognize you more when you are an actor than a director, but honestly, I am still a bit nervous when it comes to acting,” says Soubin.

“The scripting of my movie is progressing and the shoot will begin by mid-2016,” he adds. The actor is on cloud nine with his roles in recent releases like Kali, Maheshinte Prathikaram and Darwinte Parinamam. The actor has already collected his share of fan base; especially among the youth and slowly emerging as an inevitable commercial add on in contemporary Mollywood with his typical slang and body language.

Soubin made his acting debut with the Fahadh Faasil starrer Annayum Rasoolum directed by Rajiv Ravi. His portrayal of a Fort Kochi youth with typical slang went on to become an instant hit and the actor was flooded with similar roles.

His path to stardom was laid when he had worked as an associate director with popular directors in Mollywood. He worked as an assistant director for 14 years with many leading directors like Faazil, Siddique, Rafi Mecartin, P. Sukumar, Santhosh Sivan, Rajeev Ravi and Amal Neerad. His connection with film industry starts with his father Babu Shahir, who was a production controller and a producer.

The assistant director turned actor hints at a possible directorial debut soon. Moreover, there are unconfirmed reports suggesting that he will play the lead role in Ashique Abu’s next venture. But, he didn’t comment on the reports surfaced a couple of days back.

The actor observed that his long experience as assistant director helped him to find comfort zones with his director very easily and that in turn helped to take out the best out of him. He picked the phenomenal physical education teacher in Premam as the best example for this actor-director chemistry on the sets.

Nadirsha returns with Hrithik Roshan of Kattappana

Nadirsha returns with Hrithik Roshan of Kattappana

Actor turned director Nadirsha returns after his blockbuster debut Amar Akbar Anthony. His next directorial venture, which is curiously titled as Kattappanayile Hrithik Roshan, will feature scriptwriter and actor Vishnu Unnikrishnan in the lead role. The movie is produced by actor Dileep in association with Dr. Zachariah Thomas. Nadirsha turned up with a first look poster of the movie on his official Facebook page on April 1st.

Kattappanayile Hrithik Roshan is written by Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Bibin George. According to sources close to the director, the movie will start rolling from September. “My next film = ‘Kattappanayile Hrithik Roshan’. Since the story is the hero of this film, the story writer, Vishnu Unnikrishnan will play the role of hero,” says Nadirsha in his Facebook post. The movie has Sujith Vasudev to crank the camera and the rest of the cast and crew will be announced shortly.

Nadirsha managed to have a dreamlike debut through the Prithviraj flick Amar Akbar Anthony last year. The movie joined Prithviraj bandwagon of super hits and earned Nadirsha positive reviews. AAA broke all the misconceptions about Nadirsha’s relatively belated directorial debut and skyrocketed him into one of the most promising debutante director of the year.

“Frankly, I didn’t expect the film to turn out to be such a massive hit. But I was quite confident that viewers would like it. Everyone who heard the story before shooting started also had the same opinion. The actors also believed it would be a success when production and dubbing were going on. But the film’s success was beyond all the expectations,” he revealed in a previous conversation.

AAA was also turned out as a launching pad for the scribes Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Bibin George. The duo’s decade old camaraderie and links with director Nadirsha through mimicry stages, laid their path to the writer’s table. They managed to deliver a social message well packed with comic fillers though AAA. . When Bibin George and Vishnu Unnikrishnan, two youngsters from the mimicry realm, approached me with this story, I could sense that it is something I can handle as a filmmaker. That is how this film happened,” said Nadirsha.

When the AAA writers and director reunite under Dileep’s production, Mollywood can look forward for another romcom.

It’s welcome to Central Jail for King Liar

King Liar is busy in Central Jail caning his scenes for the next box office raid. While his latest flick King Lair sets new box office records, Dileep has moved on to his next project Welcome to Central Jail.

“Dileep will play a large-hearted but solitary man in the movie. There are a lot of innocent people who get charged for cases because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. This story is about a man who helps such people. He takes on the blame and willingly undergoes jail term,” says Benny P Nayarambalam.

“He has a reason to help people. For example, if an MBBS student gets caught in a mess, he bails them out by taking on the charge because society shouldn’t lose a doctor,” says Benny. “He doesn’t cover for murders or rapes, but petty cases that would get him a six-month sentence maximum,” he adds.

“We will be shooting in Trivandrum Central Jail and will also erect a jail set in Ernakulam. Like our previous ventures together, this would also be an all-out entertainer, something that people expect from Dileep,” says Benny, who has established a successful partnership with Dileep through the hits like Kunjikoonan, Chanthupottu, Kalyanaraman, and Marykkundoru Kunjadu. All those flicks happened at crucial points in Dileep’s career and turned out to be milestones in his filmography.

Sundardas reinvented Dileep’s career as a bankable hero with his directorial debut Sallapam in 1996. The movie was a surprise super hit of the year and gifted Mollywood with the star pair Dileep-Manju Warrier. After Sallapam he turned up with Kudamattam, Sammanam, Varnakkazhachakal, Kadha, Kuberan, Kanninum Kannadikkum, Pouran, and Aakasham. He took a long break of seven years after Aakasham before coming up with Rebecca Uthuppu Kizhakkemala.

Welcome to Central Jail also features Renji Panicker, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kailash, and Thesni Khan in pivotal roles. The movie is produced by Vyshakh Rajan under the banner Vaisakha Cinema.

The movie, which is directed by Fireman fame Deepu Karunakaran, is titled Karimkunnam Six. The movie is touted as a sports movie and Manju plays a rough and tough volleyball coach. The movie is written by Arunlal Ramachandran and the shooting is in full swing at Pujappura Central Jail.

The director has roped in the trainer of the national team, Harilal to instruct Manju with the nuances of the game. “He will be the game choreographer as well,” says Deepu.

Deepu Karunakaran, who came into limelight with the Mammootty starrer Fireman, goes for an out-and-out sport flick.  Karimkunnam Six is Manju’s second consecutive collaboration with writer Arunlal Ramachandran after Vettah directed by Rajesh Pillai. “It will be a sports-centric movie that will have a lot of feel-good elements,” hints Arunlal.

When asked the plot and Manju’s character, without revealing many details Arunlal said: “It’s a role that she has never done before. In fact, Manju chechi had agreed to be part of the movie halfway through our first pitch as she said she always wanted to do a movie like Chak De! India. The grounds and sports facilities in Trivandrum will be the main sites.”

Along with Manju, the movie features an ensemble cast including Anoop Menon, Babu Antony, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Gregory, Lena, Sudheer Karamana, Sudev Nair, Shyamaprasad, Major Ravi, Maniyanpilla Raju, Noby, Aneesh, Baiju, Padmarajan Rathish, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Kottayam Pradeep, Jagadish, and Manikuttan.

Reports suggest that Manju has gone through extensive training sessions to master the game. The move will also have fair share of emotional content, as it follows the bond developed between the coach and the inmates. Karimkunnam Six is produced by Jayalal Menon and Anil Biswas under the banner Backwater Studios.
