Mohanlal’s Benz Vasu will start driving soon

Actor Mohanlal is all set to join hands with the young brigade of Mollywood directors. The actor will play the title role, Benz Vasu in the movie directed by Oru Vadakkan Selfie fame G Prajith. Earlier, there were reports suggesting Mohanlal’s collaboration with Vellimoonga director Jibu Jacob were taking rounds in social media. This is his second collaboration with a young director in Mollywood.

According to various reports, Benz Vasu will feature Mohanlal as a village taxi driver. The movie is centered on his beloved Ambassador taxi, which he caresses as a Benz and hence the name. His Ambassador Benz is the multipurpose vehicle in the village and an unavoidable presence in all their social events. Vasu has an emotional chord with the car and he never allows others to drive or criticize his car. But, as the village undergoes modernization, his old Ambi becomes obsolete and Vasu struggles to keep his slippery grounds. How he manages to survive with his family of wife and kid is the rest of the story.

G Prajith was shot to overnight popularity with the success of his directorial debut, Oru Vadakkan Selfie, which was the first blockbuster of 2015. He collaborated with Nivin Pauly and Vineeth Sreenivasan to bring life to a story of a film buff. The movie fared well at the box office and hailed for racy and witty script written by Vineeth Sreenivasan, hilarious performances of Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese and Neeraj Madhav and D Prajith’s fresh treatment.

Benz Vasu will start rolling after Mohanlal wrapped up his commitments that include the Tollywood project Manamantha. Earlier, veteran director Kamal’s name was associated with the project, but that didn’t take off. According to latest reports, M Ranjith will bankroll the movie under his banner Rajaputhra Visual Media. The makers are yet to announce the supporting cast and the leading lady.

Mohanlal’s curtain raiser of 2016 will be Vyshakh ’a magnum opus action thriller Puli Murugan. The movie has already bagged “the most expensive movie” tag in Mollywood and hence raised expectations of fans sky high.  The movie, which is lined up as an Eid release, was initially scheduled for a Christmas release and then missed the deadline.
