Chempan Vinod in and as Sikhamani, the gang-man

Actor Chempan Vinod steps into the league of heroes with his upcoming Mollywood flick Sikhamani. The actor will play a full length role in the movie, which unfolds in the backdrop of dense forest. Chempan Vinod will appear in the title role Sikhamani, a never seen before character in his filmography. The movie is written and directed by debutante Vinod Guruvayur.

Chempan Vinod’s Sikhamani is a recluse and a gang-man in the Indian Railway, who mends the deep forest railway tracks. He lives a lonely life in a makeshift shed near the railway premises and almost detached from the nuances of daily life. Chempan Vinod counts the role as a real challenge and the best so far in his career.

Vinod Guruvayur is known as the scribe of the Prithviraj starrer Hero. The 2012 movie, which narrated the inside story in the lives of stunt artists or dupes in Malayalam Cinema, lifted his status as a screenwriter. Sikhamani marks his debut as an independent filmmaker. Kurangini, a hill station located in the Western Ghats is the main location of Sikhamani. The location is famous as the stunning backdrop of Kollywood flicks like Kumki and Maina.

Actor Mrudula Murali plays the leading lady opposite Champan Vinod. “Mrudula’s natural looks suited Devika’s character so we decided to keep it as it is in the movie. That said, the character calls for a strong performance,” says director Vinod Guruvayur. After a successful stint with actor Fahad Fazil in Ayal Njanalla, Mrudula had crossed the border to Kollywood to play lead role in Chikkikku Sikkikichu. Sikhamani marks her homecoming after a short Kollywood outing.

“There will be a lot of funny moments, especially when a girl from the city falls for a naive villager. His innocence, her ignorance and how they bond despite the differences make up the light-hearted tale. The director also reveals that the leading lady will have to perform some action sequences in the forest as well. Some of them will be risky, and the adventurous character will surely challenge her as an actor,” adds the director.

Chempan Vinod is on his way to the top spot of one the best character actors Mollywood has ever produced. 2016 had already witnessed some of the best performances of the actor that includes Maran in Oru Second Class Yathra, Benny in Urumbukal Urangarilla, Diesel in Double Barrel, Prof. N Neelakandan in Lord Livingston 7000 Kandi, and Darwin in Darwinte Parinamam. Sikhamani is expected to me another milestone in his career.

Sikhamani also has a supporting cast that includes Sudheer Karamana, Noby, Balaji, Shaju, Sunil Sugatha, Manuraj, Kottayam Pradeep, Gokulan, Manjusha, Anjana, Sinimol, and Venkitesh. Manoj Pillai cranks the camera and Sanal Anirudhan is the editor. Shibu Chakravarthy pens the lyrics for tunes composed by Sudeep Palodu.  The movie is produced by KK Rajagopal under the banner Sreeraj Cinema. The movie is lined up for a Vishu release.
